Gradual filter is a MUST HAVE for digital photography users, because the digital sensor unlike film has very low exposure tolerance. Detail will be lost on both low and high light area. To correct this, you need gradual filter to balance it!

Especially useful for landscape photography and doing long exposure photography

Double threaded, with rotating frame (like a polariser) so the edge can be aligned with the horizon.

Reduces brightness between sky and ground,
making it possible to capture more details.
Great for landscape and nature photography and doing long exposure photography

ND filters and their exposure factors
ND2 = one stop
ND4 = two stops
ND8 = three stops

Four main uses:
1) Enables slow shutter speeds to be used, especially with high-speed films, allowing film to record movement in subjects such as waterfalls, clouds, or cars.

2) Decrease depth of field by allowing wider apertures to be used, in turn helping to separate subjects from their background.

3) Decrease the effective ISO of high-speed film (above ISO 400) and allow it to be used outdoors in bright situations.

4) To allow picture and video cameras (which have fixed shutter speeds) to film subjects such as snow, sand or other bright scenes that can cause overexposure.
